Florence Kroot

 

Florence Glass Kroot Died on Sunday, September 14, 2008. She was born in Houghton, Michigan on February 27, 1913 and after graduating from the University of Michigan, she came to Indianapolis to take a position as a social worker. It was here that Samuel Kroot spotted her in an elevator at the Columbia Club and decided that she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. They were married for over 50 years until Samuel Kroot's death in 1986. Mrs. Kroot is survived by her beloved son, Marty (Natalie) Kroot of Indianapolis and daughter, Elaine (Bill) Petrocelli of Mill Valley, California. Florence was a loving grandmother to her 7 grandchildren; Gregory Kroot, Barry Kroot, Andrew Kroot, Grant Howard, Nicole Howard, Kathryn Petrocelli, and Michael Petrocelli as well as her 15 great grandchildren. A new great grandson is due to be born in the next few days. Mr. and Mrs. Kroot spent several years in Columbus, Indiana where she starred in theater productions and served as president of AAUW. They returned to in Indianapolis in 1949. She was active in the National Council of Jewish Women, was a trustee of The Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation and held the honor of Lion of Judah of the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family at Broadmoor Country Club. In recent years she has been lovingly cared for by Debbie Carter, Anna Mitchell and Viji Nehru. Graveside services will be at Indianapolis Hebrew Cemetery South, Wednesday, September 17th at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Samuel Kroot Internship Fund in care of Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis, 6705 Hoover Road. Arrangements entrusted to Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary.
